VonHaus Grey Banana Parasol and Base Set – Review

Springs now in full flow. Over the coming months more and more of us are going to be spending more time in the garden. Especially whilst at the moment the UK is fighting the grasp of Coronavirus and we are on lockdown. Our gardens are now our safe places, our haven from this dreaded virus and I for one am loving the opportunity to spend some time sitting outside working with my children. We are enjoying spending sessions sat at the garden table working on school work, blogging and completing other fun activities.

One thing our garden table misses though is its own parasol. I need to provide my family with some much-needed shade for us against the suns rays whilst we sit outdoors and work. With the help of VonHaus, we have been gifted to review this wonderful 3M Grey Banana Parasol with a pack complementing Banana Parasol Bases.

VonHaus 3M Grey Banana Parasol and Base Pack Review

First up when we were shopping for our new garden parasol we needed something which would be big enough to provide enough shade for the 4 of us to sit under. We also needed it to be moveable so that we could chase the sun whilst we sit outside. It also needed to be easy enough to pack away at the end of the summer season. For this, we decided that the 3m Grey Banana Parasol would be perfect for our needs.

The parasol comes boxed with everything we need (except a spanner) to build your set. It is strongly advisable you also make the additional purchase of a set of Banana Parasol Bases. The reason for this I shall explain later.

Following the very simple instructions of 3 steps I soon had our new parasol built and ready for use.

First up I had to attach the pole base to the feet on the ground. This was achieved using a spanner which wasn’t included in the set. An adjustable spanner will cope just fine.

Next up I had to construct the angled pole and head of the parasol before connecting it to the pole which would then connect to the base pole. With all these in place and connected we soon had a constructed and ready to use parasol.

Next up it soon became apparent as to why a set of parasol bases were recommended when making my purchase. The parasol became very one-side heavy and a simple breeze would make the parasol tip over.

Thankfully we received a set of bases with our parasol, designed and shaped to fit within the feet of the base and prefilled (i’m guessing with sand). It is recommended that 2 sets of bases are ordered with your parasol to evenly distribute the weight. We intend to order another set as soon as possible.

One thing I immediately noticed with this parasol was just how sturdy it felt. To be able to cope with the tilt and suspension of the umbrella on the parasol it must be strong to cope with the weight and subsequent movement on a breezy day. The upright pole is constructed of a strong steel frame, the sidearm and swinging arm are just the same. Each moveable mechanism also seems to be robust. This includes the bracket to higher and lower the parasol, the clip to hold the parasol up and the easy to use crank for opening and closing the umbrella. It feels built to last for a good few years!

The parasol also includes an integrated air vent, this prevents wind gathering underneath the umbrella and blowing it over. It also features a UV sun protection of UV30+ which is perfect for those with fair skin. It’s even perfect for sheltering children or if you need a break from the sun.

Packing the parasol away at the end of the day couldn’t be simpler. Simply just collapse the parasol down using the crank, elevation clip and lock. Then doubling it up with a parasol cover (purchased separately). This means your parasol, and mechanical parts are safe and protected in winter and wet weather.

Verdict

Overall we are incredibly impressed with our VonHaus 3M Grey Parasol and Base Pack. The overall construction was a doddle. The build quality is fantastic and the parasol is perfect for a family of 4 to all sit under and get some respite from the sun. With the parasol also not being a fitted feature either. It means we can easily move it around the garden for protection from the sun at numerous times of day. Whilst ensuring we get the best angle and coverage at all times.
