Cowin E8 Active Noise Cancelling Wireless Bluetooth Headphones : Review

I love listening to music, or the radio but I really dislike the tinny sounds that come from the cheap earphones that I currently own. One thing I have never owned for myself is a pair of proper headphones, you know the ones that cover your ear, sealing them off from the world around and letting you actually take in all the sound from your music. So when Cowin Audio offered to send me a pair of their E8 Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless Bluetooth Headphones, I was thrilled!

Front Of Box

The E8’s

Inside the box, I was presented with this robust firm case with an added clip on the side for attaching to rucksacks etc when travelling and all the safety/instruction leaflets that I would need for using my new headphones.

Hard Shell case and Instruction Manuals

Opening the case I got to see the headphones for the first time, I opted to order the Black and Orange. Other colours available are, Black/Gold, Black/Rose Red and Black/Silver. The headphones were strapped in place to prevent movement during transport and in the netted bag in the lid were various cables which I would need for using the headphones. Accessories include 3.5m Audio Cable, Micro USB Cable, a Piano Adapter and Airplane Flight Adapter.

Charging and Usage Time

Before I could set about using the headphones for the first time I needed to charge them up. Plugging them in via the Micro USB cable into a plug, a full charge from this point took about 1.5 hours (2-3 hours for an empty to full charge) and are estimated to provide a fantastic 20 hours of battery life from a full charge with the Bluetooth and the Active Noise Cancelling in use.

Powering On/Using The Features

Upon powering the headphones on for the first time it was very simple to connect to my devices, so far I have used them with my Mac and my Mobile Phone both times using the Bluetooth feature. Simply power them on using the power button by holding the button for a couple of seconds, your headphones will beep in your ear, say they are “powering on” and “pairing”, this is where you load your devices Bluetooth settings to connect them to your chosen piece of tech. Once connected you are good to go.

Other buttons on the side of the headphones include volume up/down buttons, located below the power button. Also pressing and holding the volume buttons also allows you to skip tracks on your playlist too. The power button also doubles up as a call answer/end button but we will discuss this again later.

Ear Cushions

When ordering my E8’s I was a little dubious of how big the earpieces were for the headphones. The looked rather big, but now I understand why. Upon putting the headphones on my head I was able to adjust the headband arms a bit so that the cushions fit comfortably over my ears, encasing them within. The cushions are super soft, which means for anyone wearing earrings or even glasses you won’t feel any discomfort.

Noise Cancelling and Sound Quality

Upon trying the headphones out for the first time, I was amazed just how clear and crisp the sounds were, you could hear all the sounds in the songs and each word from the artist so clearly.

And quoting from Cowin Audio;

The superior sound quality of the E8 is 25% stronger than that of our earlier E7 model. The 100dB give a deep, powerful, and crisp sound — making your overall listening experience just that much better.

I have never tried the E7’s before but I can firmly understand why these headphones are just so brilliant. I also feel that the soft cushioning earpieces also helps improve sound quality too!

As for the noise cancellation, this has been another eye-opener for me. I’d only once experienced a noise-cancelling headphone before which is when my brother offered for me to try his from another brand a few months ago and I was mightly impressed with them. At the time I was in a semi noisy environment and I couldn’t hear anything going on around me except the music. So I needed to put these to the test in a similar noisy environment.

To replicate the environment I decided to test the noise-cancelling function whilst the kids and husband were watching a film (Marvel, so it was a noisy film) with our full surround sound on the go. Flicking the top switch on the headphones activates the noise-cancelling feature and I instantly got to experience just how great it is! The “booms and blasts” from the film I was previously just about hearing were absolutely erased.

Turned on with Bluetooth and Active Noise Cancellation activated.

I’ve even tried them out in the kitchen whilst cooking tea as the noise-cancelling feature also drowns out the sound of our acti-fry completely.

Call Features

These E8’s also feature call handing, with a built-in microphone to your headset. To answer/hang-up your call simply just press the power button on your headphones once. Again the sound of calls is just as clear as music and I’ve experienced no negative remarks from the microphone on the headphones either.

On top of all this wonderfulness of the E8 Headphones, the team at Cowin Audio also offer a fantastic 18-month warranty on all their products so long as they are registered on their webpage.

All in all, these are by far the best headphones I have ever owned. I don’t have anything to compare it with, with regards to other leading brands but I can say if you are looking for your first pair of noise-cancelling, Bluetooth headphones I would certainly give these Cowin E8 Headphones a try. With a price tag of around £130 too they are certainly very affordable if you were initially looking at other brands.
