Newport Carnival – June 2019
I’m very fond of the little town I live in, we’ve lived here for 18 months now but I can’t see myself leaving here ever. Everywhere I turn there is amazing community spirit, the people are amazingly friendly and the events happening during the year here, are something not to be missed! Every June Newport hosts the annual town carnival, thousands of people arrive in town to see the carnival procession, enjoy the stalls of local businesses and just soak up the town atmosphere.
Since our arrival in the town back in 2017, my Daughter has really found her feet with her new school, she’s quite an outgoing girl anyway but by far her favourite event of the school year is the Newport Carnival. Her school has a float and she always loves being a part of it. Last year she walked behind the float but this year she got to be on the float and Leah beyond excited about this. Even the persistent rain wasn’t going to stop her moment of fun!
With Leah in place on her float, I headed back into town to watch the procession before collecting Leah again at the end.
As you can probably tell from the pictures the rain really didn’t let up during the event. But to all who braved the weather and headed out won’t have left disappointed.
Alongside the procession there are other events happening during the day, there are stalls, 2 stages hosting live music and other various acts. There’s also a small funfair area too. As the weather wasn’t letting up I decided to pack my camera away to prevent it getting water damaged.
Find out more about what we get up to in the Days Out section of my blog.
** This was a free event for anyone to attend, I’ve decided to write up a bit about it during my visit. All words and opinions are my own.
