Joint birthdays are a common party choice for many of us, but how many people can say they’ve had one with an exotic creature? Well now Sea Life enthusiast Christian Dale can, as he and Molokai, the Giant Green Sea Turtle at The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham teamed up to enjoy a fun filled joint 40th birthday bash.

On Friday 22nd July, the two dug in to a tasty birthday cake each, as Molokai’s cake choice, broccoli cake, didn’t really get Chris’ taste buds tingling! The two had a fun time interacting with one another in the 360 degree ocean tunnel, where Molokai lives, as both got right in to the birthday spirit!

Mo is very popular amongst visitors so it’s no strange feat for him to be having lots of fun with a human counterpart, he does it every day, but this time was obviously extra special, as both have reached the big Four-O!

With an average lifespan of over 80 years, there are definitely more fun times in store for Mo, who actually arrived at the attraction after he was found in lady’s handbag at Heathrow Airport! Giant Green Sea Turtles can weigh up to 700 pounds! Unlike most sea turtles, green turtles are herbivorous, feeding on sea grasses and algae – hence the love of broccoli!

Talking about the experience, Chris said: “I have been visiting the attraction for years and Mo has always been my favourite creature, I love to watch him swim around the ocean tunnel. When I found out we shared a birthday, and were the same age, a light bulb went off, and I knew I had to have a joint party with him.

“You often hear people talking about how turning 40 can be a bit of a sad time, but I didn’t feel any of this emotion, I was ecstatic to be sharing my birthday with Mo and it was a pleasure to turn 40 together. It was also fantastic to celebrate this milestone at the attraction, as it also celebrates the milestone of its 20th year.”

The underwater attraction has recently launched three brand new attractions, the 360 degree ocean tunnel, Clownfish Kingdom and Behind the Scenes Tours. These fantastic new additions join the popular Penguin Ice Adventure, the Interactive Rockpool and much more.
