Sylvanian Families Striped Cat Family : Review

Rating: [rating]

As a child, I have memories of going to our local toy store and looking at Sylvanian Families on the shelves but I was never able own any. I remember looking at all the cute characters, vehicles, houses and furniture and dreaming of owning a set to call my own. Over time and many Christmases later I never owned any of them and my childhood I left behind, but now I am a mother. I am a mother of a Daughter, my daughter LOVES imaginative play and all creatures so its right to introduce her to Sylvanian Families. I want to live this experience with her.

To help Leah and I on our journey I was contacted by Sylvanian Families to own our first ever family set and we were delighted to receive this gorgeous Striped Family Set, new to the Sylvanian collection.

Sylvanian Striped Cat Family

The set consists of a full family, Mummy Cat, Daddy Cat, Brother Cat and Sister Cat. Each character has its own name and profile full of interesting facts.

  • Amelia is the Mummy Cat of the family and is fond of fruit, enjoys fruit picking and making delicious treats with her picked fruits. She also runs the Ice Cream Parlour at Sea Breeze Cape where her 5-scoop ice cream cones are legendary.
  • Simon is the Daddy Cat, he’s the sporty cat of the family and particularly likes his water sports. He enjoys spending time at the Summer House at the Seaside and teaches water sports to Sylvanian Children.
  • Shane is the Brother Cat who is very adventurous and loves exploring the Adventure Island. His parents do worry about him as he likes climbing tall trees and going into dark caves.
  • Sabrina is the Sister Cat and is very active. She enjoys bike rides by the sea and her best friend is called Freya who is a Chocolate Rabbit Girl. On Sabrina’s dress she has a friendship brooch which is matching to Freya’s, this is very special to her.

Knowing all this about our Striped Cat Family really has given us a sense of understanding and how special they are, not just as a toy but as a community to all the other Sylvanian’s.

Upon unboxing our Cat Family I was immediately taken aback on just how much attention to detail has been made with these products. The families clothes are have been properly stitched and also the added detailing of collars, buttons and bows are a real bonus. The clothes are fully removable, using the Velcro fasteners and are made from 100% cotton material.

With our Cats stripped of their clothing we could get a real insight to their bodies, covered in a flock plastic which gives each cat a velvet feeling. They have moveable limbs enabling them to stand up or sit down and their heads are moveable too. Attention to detail in their faces is also astounding, each cat has beady eyes, indentations for their ears, nose and mouth whilst also having whiskers.

After sitting for some time just admiring our first ever set of Sylvanian Families I had to go and collect Leah from Nursery. Immediately she was besotted with them, she understood they were a family and that Mummy and Daddy needed to look after Brother and Sister. They played ring a ring a roses and even had a game of “tag” (Leah’s favourite game to play at the moment). It was lovely to see Leah just sit and admire her new friends.

Sylvanian Striped Cat Family 3

This Sylvanian Family set is available to buy from most high street toy stores with an RRP of £15.99 which I would have initially thought was very expensive for these until I’d actually met them, so well made and gorgeous. Perfect for young children (and older children) to create memories.

We definitely have plans to increase Leah’s Sylvanian collection this coming Christmas with various accessories and sets which we shall be picking up. I think its safe to say we have the Sylvanian bug!

We have also created an unboxing and initial thoughts video for you to see;

**This is not a sponsored post we were sent a Striped Cat Family set from Sylvanian Families to test and review. All words and opinions are my own.

I have really strong memories of playing with Sylvanian Families but I didn’t have any of my own either! Must have been at friends’ houses. I’m really pleased that they are back (or still around) I’m considering getting some for my daughters soon – they would love these cats!

My girl loves sylvanian families, I’m gutted I never kept any of mine from when I was a kid so I’m having to rebuy bargains on eBay when I see them. I think they’re adorable #ToddlerApprovedTuesday

They are a fabric tail with wire inside, they are moveable but don’t tend to stay in the position you want them to.
